INSOMNIA

3 10 2011

I hoisted myself on my own petard,

Because, to sleep, I tried so hard.

I twisted to the left and to the right,

But still had a sleepless night.

Sleeping pills, I refuse to take,

So, all night, I stayed awake.

But, with the approach of dawn,

I suddenly began to yawn,

And, with the appearance of daybreak,

I found that I couldn’t stay awake.

Now, that certainly couldn’t be right,

To sleep by day and be awake at night.

Then, suddenly, it occurred to me,

That, that’s how jet lag ought to be

So maybe I should go away, And find another place to stay
